Effect Of Cash Management On Performance Of Deposit Money Banks In Nigeria (A Study Of Selected Banks)
ABSTRACT
This study sought to establish effect of cash management on performance of deposit money
banks in Nigeria. The main objective of the study is to determine the effect of cash management
performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria. The study extracted data within 2006-2015 from
annual reports of two banks judgmentally selected consequent on their perceived strength in the
banking industry. It adopted the ordinary least squares based multiple regression to analyze the
relationship of the variables. Secondary data were collected and analysed using E-views. Bank
performance in terms of profitability is measured by its return on assets, return on equity and
profit after tax. Three hypotheses are formulated and statistically tested at 5per cent level of
significance using Multiple Regression Analysis. Findings from the analysis shows that there is a
significant relationship between cash management and performance of banks in Nigeria.
However, the key results indicate that only the banks with optimum liquidity were able to
maximum returns. The study concluded that excess case pose problem to bank management
operations and recommends that bank should adopt a consistent and quantitative approach to an
efficient cash management in order to improve the financial performance of banks.
