ABSTRACT

The Study Was Motivated By The Necessity To Establish The Determinants Of Rural-Urban Migration In Imo State, The Pattern Of Rnuration Associated With It, And The Socioeconomic Characteristics Of The Respondents (Youths). Primary Data Were Used To Solve The Research Problem And Were Collected Lioni A Total Of 80 Respondents, Constituting 4 Coniniunities From 2 Local Government Areas, Purposively Selected Out Of 2 Agricultural Zones Of The State. A Well Structured Questionnaire And Oral Interviews Were Used As The Research Instruments In Collecting The Data. The Respondents Comprised Of Youths Between The Ages Of 1 5-35. The Data Collected Were Analyzed Using The Maximum Likelihood Logit Analysis. Also, Tables, Frequencies, And Percentages Were Employed. The Estimates Of The Analysis In Line With Existing Literatures Identified Live (5) Variables To Be The Determinants Of Youth Rural -Urban Migration Namely; Age, Level Of Education, Household Dependency Level, Rural Employment Status And Rural Income Status. In Line With The Findings, Proper Level Of Household Fertility, I'ural Stay Of Youths, Educational Institution Diversifications, Improved Infrastructures, Youth Seminars, Workshops, Orientations As Well As Employment Opportunities. With Adequate Incomes Should Be Encouraged In Rural Areas. With This In Place, Rural Development Will Be Greatly Encouraged With Effective Youth Participation, Minimization Of Rural-Urban Migration And Private Sector Participation In Rural Development.
