Determinants Of Microcredit Demand Among Farmers In Ikwuano Local Government Area, Of Abia State, Nigeria.
ABSTRACT
The overall objective of this study is to determine the microcredit demand,, among farmers in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State. Ten autonomous communities were chosen randomly from Ikwuano Local Government Area. Ten farmers were randomly selected from each autonomous community to give a sample of 100 farmers. Structured questionnaire were used to interview and obtain information from the farmers. The data were analysed by simple statistical techniques such as frequencies and percentages. The logistic model was also used in the analysis. The result of the study showed that majority of the farmers in Ikwuano Local Government Area are not aware of microcredit, others encounter the problem of inadequate fund, some did not have access to credit due to lack collateral, high interest rate lending policies of lending institutions. • In order to meet the farmers credit need, government should encourage the already existing microfinance sector, credit institutions should reduce their requirement on collateral, reduce interest rate. Farmers should also be granted the amount of credit demanded to enhance optimal production,
