Awareness And Use Of Collaborative Tools For Improved Scholarly Communication Among Librarians In Federal University Libraries In South East, Nigeria.:- Onyekweodiri Nnamdi E.
ABSTRACT
The study investigated the
awareness and use ofcollaborative toolsfor improved scholarly communication
among librarians in federal university libraries in south east, Nigeria. The
descriptive survey research design was adopted using the questionnaire as instrumentfor
data collection. Thepopulation ofthe study consisted of142 librarians infederal
university libraries in South East, Nigeria. Frequency counts, percentages and
mean score was used to analyze the data generated. Findings revealed that
technology tools used by librariansfor collaboration include
GoogleApplications, Microsoft Applications, Social networking tools,
Blogs,Micro Blogging, Web Conferencing, Flip Grid, Canva, Adobe Connect, Wikis,
Padlet, and Presentation and slide sharing. Flip Grid, Adobe Connect, Blogs,
Wikis, Web Conferencing, Micro Blogging, and Social networking tools enjoyed
very high extent ofuse. Conservatism, Poorindividual’ssocialrelationship
between colleagues, Authorship inpaper writing, are some ofthe Challenges
associated with the use ofcollaborative technology by Librarians. Librarians
should be free to share knowledge with colleagues, regular Workshops should be
organizedfor librarians on the use ofcollaborative technology tools,
Sensitization in the needfor collaboration in scholarly communication, are some
of the Strategies to improve the use of collaborative technology by Librarians
in scholarly communications. Key words: Collaborative Technology,
