Application Of Granger Causality Testing To Nigeria Naira Exchange Rate Against Gb Pound And US Dollar
ABTSRACT
Using Granger Causality approach, this study was intended to establish the
relationship between exchange rate for Nigerian Naira with US dollar and GB pounds
using times series monthly data for the period January 2005 to December 2014. The
time series secondary data used for the study were tested for Stationarity and were
found stationary at first difference. Also Dickey Fuller test at first difference showed
absence of Unit root. According to the result of the pair-wise correlation between
NGNUSD and NGNGBP, there exists a positive relation between the series which is
statistically significant at 1% level of significance. According to the Pair-wise Granger
causality test, we find unidirectional causality between NGNUSD and NGNGBP
which means NGNUSD affects NGNGBP. Some suggestions and policy
recommendations were made based on the findings.
