ABSTRACT

The research work focused on the allocation of credit to the livestock subsector under the Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund (ACGSF). The principle objective is to evaluate the livestock sectoral allocation of credit under the scheme with the view of determining the value of and volume of credit guaranteed to livestock as it relates to its output. Secondary data were collected on the value and volume of credit guaranteed to livestock. Output of poultry, fishery and cattle production were also collected. Data analysis used was the regression analysis. The study revealed that the value and volume of credit guaranteed to poultry was higher than that of cattle and fishery. The study also indicated that most of the independent variables had a positive effect on output except for in cattle. The study recommends that livestock producers should be provided with more funds since . output increases as the value and volume of credit increase This is shown with the significance level on the value of credit guaranteed and the government capital expenditure on agriculture. The constraints associated with the scheme's operation include: - problems associated with farthers, managing agents, trading banks and government policy. The government should restructure the existing ACGSF for more efficient performance in the area of credit allocation to the livestock sector there by improving the socio economic wellbeing of the great majority of the entire citizenry.
