This is the Day the Lord has made. We shall rejoice and be glad in it! The Lord God has been with us, He has been our bulwark, our buckler, our strength and stay over these years. The hymnist sang “Oh God our help in ages past; our Hope for years to come, our Shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal Home. Before the hills in order stood, or earth received its frame, from everlasting Thou art God, to endless years the same. A thousand ages in Thy sight are like an evening gone, short as the watch that ends the night before the rising sun. Time, like an ever-rolling stream bears all its sons away; they fly forgotten, as a dream dies at the op’ning day.” These are why God is mysterious and deserves our reverence and praise. He is a God that should be relied on, trusted to handle events and change situations.

We must give all the glory to the Almighty God for bringing us into this season of reflection. Usually when men sit down to reflect, they come to refreshed vision concerning their lives. The Almighty has kept this university moving through the years and has now brought us to our thirtieth year and that is why we are here this morning to say thank you to Him and then to bring more burdens of our university to Him. I am not here to trace any history, but to call our minds to the fact that at a time patriotic men thought is necessary and worthy for this part of the country to have a center of learning that will help provide academic space for their people and that was it. I believe that they trusted God that it was possible for the Federal Government to grant it and it was granted. Many should have prayed, lobbied, fasted, donated resources to make it happen. This is why we must reflect on how we have supported such vision or worked against it as staff, students and friends or enemies of the university.
