ABSTRACT

The performance of the Nigerian manufacturing sector has attracted considerable attention since independence in 1960 because of its potential for rapid economic growth (Banjoko, Iwuji, & Bagshaw, 2012). A growing manufacturing sector reduces poverty through wealth creation and employment generation. Despite these potential, the performance of Nigeria’s manufacturing sector has been declining over the years. This downward trend has been noticeable since the early period of the 1980s, (Manufacturing Association of Nigeria, 2014).  The Nigerian economy is faced with several hindrance factors such as bad governance, corruption, lack of policy implementation and persistence competition impede the speed of having a huge return on the resources employed and invested by manufacturing industries in Nigeria. The sustainability of a firm heavily depends on the ability and efficient utilization of financial management function (Karaduman, 2011).
