Women Career Advancement In Hospitality Industry: Perception Of Students, Educators And Industry Recruiters

Abstract
The perception of students, educators and industry recruiters on the factors that affect women career advancement in the hospitality industry was explored in this work.. The study was conducted in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, Federal Polytechnic, liwana Alikpo, Ebonyi State, I Hotel Presidential, I:nugu, Enugu State and Hotel Royal Damgrate, Umuahia, Abia State. Twenty Five (25) students of Hospitality Education in each of the institutions, 30 Hospitality educators and 20 industry recruiters, totaling a target population of 100, randomly selected, constituted the study sample. Information was elicited on the following five key issues: Women's roles in the Hospitality Industry, Importance of Hospitality Education Programme, Constraints to women career advancement in the 1-lospitality Industry, Factors that facilitate women career advancement in the hospitality Industry and Ways women can he prepared for better leadership position in the 1-lospitality Industry from the respondents using questionnaire; administered and retrieved on the spot. Data were analyzed using frequency and simple percentages. More than half of the respondents agreed that women performance the role of decision making, leadership by example, peaceful resolution of human resources in hospitality industry. New ideas of' doing business, producing people who can think and act fast, training people to assume leadership positions and helping people develop skill solving organizational problems were viewed as the importance of hospitality educational programme studies.
