Use Of Information And Communication Technology (ICT) In University Libraries By Undergraduate Students: A Case Of Abia State University, Uturu:- Onyenachi, Joy C.

Abstract

Information and Communication Technology (JCT) has added value to the services provided by libraries all over the world, Nigerian university libraries inclusive. This research is on Use of Information and Communication Technology (JCT) in Universities Libraries by Undergraduates: Case of Abia State University. The primary objectives were to ascertain the JCT facilities available in ABSU Library; assess the use of the JCT by ABSU students; Identify the limitations of the Library services Jo students using JCT; Proffer solutions to the limitations. The survey, research design was employed and the instrument used for data collection was Qu~stionnaire. Descriptive statistical tool used was mean to analyse the data collected. On four point rating mean score of responses at 2.50 and above was agreed while below 2. 50 is disagreed. The findings of the research show that the ICT facilities available: include Computer, Wi-Fi, Uninterrupted power supply, CD-ROM. Computer networks. Undergraduates do not use JCT facilities in the library often; the challenges in the use are inadequate JCT equipment, inadequate access to compatible JCT software facilities and lack of skilled JCT personnel. The study recommended that university library should provide adequate JCT equipment; access to compatible software facilities should be made available, skilled JCT personnel should be recruited in the library; printers, scanners, modem and photocopiers should be made available.
