ABSTRACT

This study on Training and Performance ofEmployees: A Study of Selected Banks in Nigeria, was conducted using three (3) Banks in Abia State viz; Unity Bank Pic, Guaranty Trust Bank Pic and Diamond Bank Pic. The study attempted to examine whether training enhances work performance of employees in selected banks, as well as examine the relationship between training and performance of employees in the selected banks. Thus, 268 employees were selected using simple random technique. Both primary and secondary data were used. Data from respondents were analyzed using descriptive statistics, mean scores from Likert scale. The employed SPSS version 21.0 statistical package for analysis. The employees indicated training impacts positively on their job performance. Results also showed that the selected banks have training policy and department having known the importance of training. Respondents stated that they work smarter , become result-oriented for their organization being properly trained. In other words, that lack oftraining leads to loss of resources, customers and perhaps business. Mean scores from likert scale revealed high performance of employees in terms of their key performance indicators. It became obvious that training has a significant effect on job performance of employees in selected banks
