ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study "The usefulness of financial statements in evaluating organizational performance in banking sector" is to proffer solutions to problems encountered in the use of financial statements as bases for evaluating organizational performance in banking industry In the course of the study, the researcher made use of primary and secondary data in order to obtain a holistic information about the subject under investigation. Primary data was sourced through the use of questionnaire and personal interviews. The secondary data was sourced through hooky, journals seminar/workshop paper on financial statements. The population of the study was the sixty (60) staff of Afribank Nigeria P/c. The population was sampled to fifty-two (52) using "Taro-Yamane 's statistical formulae ". The findings from the study showed that: ('1,) financial statements of immense importance in banking industry 'ii) Information from financial statements can only become meaning and useful through analysis and interpretation of financial variables in the statements.
