The Use Of Information And Communication Technology (Ict) (A Case Study Of Abia State University Library Uturu)

ABSTRACT

 Information and Communication Technology ICT has added value to the services provided by Nigerian libraries. This study is a sur'ey of acadeniicn Nigeria a case study ofAbia State University Uturu Library. The respondents were students and librarians of the University. The findings show that Abia State University libraiy has an abundance of computers connected to the internet with the web based millennium software. The students make use of online public access catalogue OP AC to locate materials on the shelve. However, adequate training of library staff would boost the use of electronic database. Rapid development of information and communication technology ICT has changed the traditional concept of libraries. Modern Academic libraiare more powerful. dynamic and can reach their users without the restriction of global boundaries. In this internet era, libraries are fast moving in digital mode and can be accessed universally, with the advent of new communication technology. acadeniic libraries designed their services to borcierless world and become lifeblood of the conim urn t\.
