ABSTRACT

This study analyzed the role of cooperative societies in the development of small and medium scale industries in Udi L.G.A. Enugu State. The specific objectives includes to ascertain the role of cooperatives in developing small and mediwn scale industries in the study area, to ascertain if cooperative societies helps in developing small and medium scale industries in Nigeria, to determine the problem encountered by cooperatives to develop small and medium scale industries in Enugu, to ascertain if cooperatives embark on research and development in a bid to finding new ways of developing small and medium scale industries. A Likert scale of 5 point with cut off of 2.5 was used to rate response of respondents, the researcher also made use of Chi-square as a statistical tool of analysis to evaluate each hypothesis presented in the study. Hence if calculated X is higher than table value, we agree it is significant therefore we reject the null hypothesis and accept the alternative hypothesis. If the reverse, we do otherwise. Result show that majority of the respondents fall under the age bracket of 21-35 years and were mostly males and attended higher institution and are senior staff.
