Abstract

 Given the swift advances and the increased reliance on technology, the subject of how ii is changing the workplaa is exceedingly salient for libraries and librarians. This article interprets the rationale of technology on work organizations, most especially the library. After a review of technology and key developments in technology, considered the types of technology, examined its application in the library workplace, and how ii affects libraryservices as regards acquisitions, cataloguing and classification, circulation, serials management control reference services. To illustrate technology's impact on library services, we have presented types of IntegratedLibrary Systems (ILSs). To provide insights regarding the importance of technology in the library workplace, have considered the following: work efficiency, competitiveness in the marketplace, enhanced communication, workplace organization, library security, enhanced customized services and speedy services as important goals. also examined constraints to effective application of technology in the library work place: inadequate staff training, and purchase of the training facilities, towering cost of JCT infrastructure and internet connectivity, epileptic powersupply, low internet connectivity, lack of good maintenance culture and inadequate funds. We have concluded recommending a number of factors that could affect the full application of technology in the library workplace. this end, the importance of technology in libraries in order to meet the information needs of their patrons cannot overemphasized.
