ABSTRACT

This research of work was designed to examined the "The  Impact of Mergers   and   Acquisition    on  the   Economic Development of Nigeria.   Also  to  identify the  possible  course  for  overcoming  the problems that led  to business failure in the economy as well  as to discover  the  prospects   of  merger and  acquisition on  the  Nigerian economy.  This work was written with primary and secondary data. Primary data is  an  oral  interview derived from the senior management of the firm.  Whereas the secondary data is collected from text books, publish  journals of the company,   magazine and Newspaper etc. the population of the study is 45 whereas  the sample size 40.  Also the formular  used  is the Taro Yarnani  formular. The following summaries are  made  from  the findings: merger and acquisition has prospects in improving  the  economic development of  Nigeria   it  also  improves capital based  of the firm and stimulates the growth of the economy. The following   recommendation are been made:  Improvements should be  made  on  publicity   with  respect  to  awareness   on  merger   and acquisition,     this  is  because  some  entrepreneurs  today  do  not understand     the   value,     meaning   and   benefits  of   merger   and , acquired firm should be fully compensated in  the exercise.
