ABSTRACT

This study looked at career management and employee's performance in three selected health institutions in Umuahia, Abia State. The objective of the study was to find out whether different career management dimensions were available in these health institutions and the relationship between these career dimensions and employee performance. Career management comprised measure of career management policies, career development, and career information while employee performance was measured in terms of employee's ratings of statement of performance. Three research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. A questionnaire titled 'Career Management and Employee Performance' was developed and administered to a sample of 3M employees, but only 270 were returned, thereby achieving a response rate of 76.9%. Reliability test was earned Out using inter-item internal consistency and alpha values were found to exceed 0.65. Descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation were used to analyze the data The result found that the three dimensions of career management comprising career information, career management policies and career development were available, maintained and carried out in the selected health institutions. The result also found that there was a significant relationship between career management and employee's performance. Therefore, it could be inferred that career management is strongly associated with employee's performance.
