ABSTRACT

This study examined the impact of capital market on economic growth in Nigeria. The specific objectives were to examine the rate at which new stocks were issued at the capital market and analyze the impact of capital market on the real GDP of Nigeria. The study utilized data from various issues of CBN statistical bulletin and some selected commercial banks annual reports and statement oOf accounts. Multiple regression analysis was employed in the analysis of the data using its four functional forms. The study revealed amongst others that there exists a significant relationship between capital market and Nigeria economic growth and also recommended amongst others, the improvement in the declining market capitalization by encouraging more foreign investors to participate in the market as a panacea for enhanced and continual economic growth and development.
