ABSTRACT

The major problem militating against the performance of government ministries and parastatals has been high level of misappropriation of budgeted funds by government officials. It is based on this problem that this research is undertaken on the impact of budgeting and budgetary control on the performance of government ministries and parastatals. The study made use of su,vey research design. A survey data from 70 respondents using research designed questionnaire and validated by experts were used in the analysis of this study. The researcher employed chi-square and descriptive statistics In the data analysis. Our result reveals the following; fund diversion, poor budgetary monitory and non-adherence to budget approval as major problems militating against government performance through budgeting and budgetary control. Therefore, the study concluded that govern rr7ent should ensure proper monitoring of budgeted funds to ministries and parastatals while those government officials found in the act of diverting budget funds of the ministries and parastatals should be meant to face appropriate disciplinary measures within the ambit of the law.
