ABSTRACT

Introduction From the late 1990’s, literature began to be replete with predictions and speculations of the impending death of traditional Libraries; that-is, the print based library, as a physical space where print information materials are collected, organized, disseminated and eventually preserved. The reasons for this well founded trepidation are many and cogent, but generally revolve around the advent of digital technologies and their applications to the generation, dissemination and storage of information. There were fears that the advantages of the digital and digitized information resources and processes would speedily or eventually displace and replace the traditional print library system.
