The Extent Of Availability And Use Of Private And Public School Library Resources In Awka Urban

ABSTRACT

The study investigates the extent of availability and use of private and public library resources in Awka Urban. The descriptive survey research method was adopted for the study. A population of 3, 474 was used for the study, to ensure adequate data collection, purposive sampling techniques was used to get 25% from each of the four schools making up a population research study of 100 respondents. Questionnaire was the instrument • used for data collection. Six objective and six research questions were raised to guide the study and data was analyzed using simple percentages and mean ratings. The data analysis revealed that, lack of trained and qualfIed teacher librarians, inadequate funding, Jack of current reading materials are the major factors that affect the extent of use of library resources in private and public secondary school libraries in Awka Urban. Based on these findings, it was recommended thct the schoc 'library management should look into the development and growth of school library as a matter of urgency through the process of subscribing for online databases
