ABSTRACT

A pot experiment was conducted at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in the 2005 farming season to study the effect of wood ash on the release of phos2horus and potassium and growth of maize in Southeastern Nigeria. A Completely Randomized Design was used in the experiment with six treatments and four replications. The treatments were 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 t/ha. The results obtained showed that there was significant difference in pH level at the third and fourth weeks after application. The 2 t/ha and 4 t/ha gave the highest of release of P in solution at the fourth week after application. There was no effect. 'of the treatment on plant height and number of leaves per plant.
