ABSTRACT

A four months study was carried out to detennine the growth performance of Clarias gariepinus whose diet was soyabean meal replaced with Beniseed (Sesamum indicum). The diet four or treatment four had 24.86% of soyabcan meal and was replaced with beniseed at 40% level giving 16.57% of benisced, treatment three had 29.00% of soyabean meal which was replaced at 30% level of beniseed giving 12.43% of beniseed, treatment two had 33.14% of soyabean meal at 20% level of replacement with bcnisccd giving 8.29% of benisced. Treatment one 37.29% of soyabean meal at 10% level of replacement ofbeniseed giving 4.14% of beniseed. The control which is treatment zero had 41.43% of soyabean meal at zero level of replacement with beniseed. The diet were assigned using three replicate in a complete randomized design (CRD) containing ten fish per replicate in a 70 litres plastic bath. The fish were fed at 5% of their body weight twice per day for 112 days and water changed every 3 days while sampling to know their specific growth rate, percentage survival, feed conversion ratio, feed in take was carried out biweekly. Data was analyzed using statistical analysis for simple software. After the experiment, it was observed that treatment one has the highest mean weight gain followed by treatment four and treatment two respectively. Treatment three has the highest SGR followed by treatment one and treatment two. Treatment one has the best FCR followed by treatment four and treatment two. Treatment three consumed the highest feed following by the treatment one and treatment two.
