Abstract

 No occupation or field of knowledge is qualified to be described as a profession without a body of theoretical knowledge, which the practitioners acquire through a well-structured educational programme. Normally, every educational programme or profession is identified by a given nomenclature in relation to certification and a proper place of domiciliary, taking into cognisance the category of institution, faculty or department of instruction. In Nigeria, the nomenda ture and location of library and information science education has assumed a crisis dimension. This paper therefore discusses the developments in library and information science education in relation to crisis of nomen clature and location of the discipline in Nigerian tertiary Institutions. The paper also outlines strategies fur taming the crisis.
