Techniques For Implementing An Effective Earthing And Lightning Protection System In Nigeria

ABSTRACT

The present level of unavailability in the power and telecommunication sectors of this country Is Iargely due to poor earthing and lightning protection systems because of the inconsistency and methods for providing effective earthing and lightning protection systems. Experience has shown that consistent supply of power and adequate provision of information would result to general economic growth and enhancement of a country's prospect of achieving sustainable development in information driven world of today. However, one of the major factors militating against this growth especially in the power system arises from insulation breakdown due to lightning surge. This is as a result of poor earthing and lightning protection systems. This project therefore tries to bring out techniques and solutions for implementing effective earthing and lightning protection systems for the proper protection of electrical and electronics equipment. This project also focuses on the need for engineering students and trainers to imbibe the necessity for protection in our industries.
