Abstract The study looked at the subject preferences of senior secondary school students and implication to technological advancement and marketing of education. The design of the study is descriptive survey. Three research questions were asked and two hypothesize; tested to guide the study. The population of the study was made up of 2297 senior secondary school students in Umuahia education zone. 982 were males and 1315 were females. Out of these, a sample of 345 was got by a combination of purposive and cluster sampling techniques because $S2 and SS3 students who have been exposed to all subjects were used and the local government areas were considered in the choosing of schools simple random sampling. The sample consists of 147 males and 198 females. The instrument for data collection was a schedule that consists of all subjects to which the students were to indicate the most preferred subject(MP), preferred subject (P), little preference (LP) and not preferred (NP), Results show that English language, lgbo, Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Geography are the most preferred in the order mentioned. Gender and location play roles in subject preferences. It recommended that scholarships should be given to science loving students to encourage technological advancement.
