Abstract

The study and design of Erosion control structures for Ndoro. lkwuano L.G.A. Abia State was carefully carried out the parameters needed for the design were well defined b identifying the major causes of gully erosion in the site as a result of poor sanitation of' the community. People using the already existing erosion control structures as a refuse dump site which over time had blocked the channel part, creating a parallel channel instead of the installed channel, thereby causing the gully formation. The lined trapezoidal channel were designed carrying 2.4m7s. the slope calculated as 1.4%. velocity of flow 3.58rn/s while the catchment area was estimated as 25 hectares. A roughness coefficient of 0.015 was used, while runoff coefficient of 0.48 were selected. a trapezoidal channel of bottom width 0.82m. depth of flow 0.49m. and top width 2.78m were designed respectively to control the erosion by conveying the runoff to Aqua-Ibo River which serve as the outlet discharge point using this type of channel, the runoff will be safely discharged and the gully site totally reclaimed.
