ABSTRACT

A survey of 315 students in Niger Delta University and Michael Okpara University, Umudike Umuahia, both in Nigeria was'•carried out with a view to identifying the extent to which the library is meeting the challenges of information provision for its users. The study adopted a survey research design!to gather data about users, on a stratified random sampling basis. A structured questionnaire was designed to capture users’ behaviour as well as problems encountered by academic staff in the bid to obtain information. The findings show that information needs is mostly job-directed: keeping up-to-date in various fields. The study suggested that there should be a properi feedback mechanism to monitor the effectiveness of services and products.
