Societal Factors Influence On Secondary School Pupils' Discipline In Abia State :- U. N. Akanwa

Abstract The researcher sought to find out the societal factors that influence discipline. Sixty-eight teachers from ten schools (nine public and one private) and fifty non teachers in Umuahia North and South Local Government Areas were randomly selected by balloting. They completed a 23 item questionnaire which had a validity and reliability indices of 0.08 and 0.85 respectively. The frequencies of the responses were got and the mean derived. The results showed that parental laxity and lack of integrity ranked first followed by corruption and over pampering. Among others, it was recommended that since some of the societal factors are peculiar to localities, solutions should be found on the basis of the localities.
