ABSTRACT

 This paper discusses re-skilling, upgrading and up-skilling the skills ofthe library workforce in an era ojdigital transformationforsustainable development. The changing world ofwork is creating new challengesfor employers and employees as new knowledge, skills and behaviours are required owing tofrequent organizational changes. Thepaper observes that todays' labour market isfastchanging mainly due to digitization. Workingmethods andknowledge change rapidly, andtherefore skills and qualifications obtained a couple ofdecades ago might not be up-to-date to meet the needs on the modern labour market. This paper examines the ongoing digital transformation that continues to generate a steady demandfor workers with increasingly sophisticated digitalskills. Il provides an understanding ofskills generally andhighlightsthe type ofskills andskilling requiredto be able to work effectively in this digital age. In addition to these variety ofskills and skilling, the paper notes that library workforce need also to get to grips with some competencies. The paper concludes that as the types ofskills needed in the labour market change rapidly, individual library workforce will have to engage in life-long learning ifthey are to remain notjust employable but are to achieve fulfilling and rewarding careers that allow them to maximize their employment opportunities
