Abstract

The need for repositioning colleges of education libraries for sustainable education development is the focus of this paper. Education as a tool for national development is expected to transform anyone that embraces education. Objectives of colleges of education libraries were discussed. Education is the process of developing an individual physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally and orally for the wellbeing of the individual and that of the society in which he belongs. Therefore, libraries role for Sustainable development brings change and improvement in the society as relates to individual in the society. The college libraries need to be re-focused so that the goal for which the library is built in will be actualized. Challenges faced by college libraries in carrying out their roles were enumerated. The paper concluded that college libraries have great role to play in preparing teachers who are great molders in educational development of the future generation. However, the paper recommended that proper funding, adequate training in the development of skill in information technology, production of multimedia and audio visUal resources and marketing were given and provision of enough space for improvement and future development and adequate fonding should be provided and sustained so that the repositioning of college libraries will help in the sustainable development
