ABSTRACT This study was undertaken to establish reference values for Schirmer’s 'fear l’est-1 (SI 1-1) and Schirmer’s Tear Test-2 (STT-2) in Red Sokoto Goats (RSG) and White Fulani Cattle (WFC). The study compared STT-1 and STT-2 performed in the morning hours (9.00am) and evening hours (4.00pm) among male and female, left and right eye in both species. I wenty apparently healthy animals with no evidence of ocular diseases were used in this study, five males and live females of each specie; RSG and WFC. Tear production was measured by inserting standard sterile Schirmer’s Tear Test Strip (OMNI"5 Schirmer’s Tear Test Strips, Omnilens PV 1 LID. India. LOT Number; OMSC140101) in the lateral part of the ventral conjunctival fornix for one minute. This was done for STT-1 (without application of local eye anaesthesia) and for STT-2 (After application of local eye anaesthesia) for both the left and right eye. STT-1 and STT-2 I showed significant difference in RSG and WFC. Comparison of mean STI -1 and S f T-2 values between left and right eye, morning and evening values and male and female values showed no statistically significant differences. In conclusion, this study reports STT-1 and STT-2 diurnal findings in RSG and WFC with their means ±SD and ranges.
