ABSTRACT

A field experiment was conducted at the Eastern farm of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike during 2007 cropping season. In the experiment, six varieties of sweet potatoes were used, which included (Tropical 1pornoea selection series — TIS) TIS 07/0087, TIS 8610356,TIS 8164, TIS 8441, TIS 2532 op1.1.3 and Ex-lgbariam. The experiment was planted at the spacing of I rn x 0.3m. The experimental layout was Randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replicates. The result of the experiment showed that proximate analysis of the saleable roots of six sweet potato genotypes evaluated at Umudike in 2007 was good enough to be recommended of farmers for cultivation, on the basis of high protein, fat, and fiber content.
