ABSTRACT

This study examined the prevalence of endemic goitre among Orba-Nsukka adult females. Data were collected with structured questionnaire. Information were collected on the socio-economic characteristics, prevalence of endemic goitre, causes of endemic goitre, dietary history of the people and various prevention and treatment seeking pattern of the respondents. iodine determination of various sources of water supply to the people, salt, some staple foods and soil samples from the study area were carried out. From the findings it was discovered that Goitre prevalence was higher among married women. The water, food and soil samples were deficient in iodine.
