Performance Of Starter Broiler Fed Boiled Jackfruit Seedmeal (Artocarpus Heterophyllus):- Onwuachu, Anthony N.

ABSTRACT

The experiment was conducted to test the effect of boiled jackfruit seed meal on the performance and economics of starter broiler chicken. The experiment was conducted using one hundred and twenty chicks. The chicks were fed formulated diets containing JFM at Ti (0%), T2 (10%), T3 (20%) and T4(30%) levels of inclusion. Each diets was fed to triplicate groups often (10) broiler chicks each for 42 days in a completely randomized design (CRD). The birds were fed ad-libitum throughout the period of the experiment. Data on growth and feed intake were collected weekly and daily respectively. At the end of the rearing period (i.e. the 6 weeks), the birds were weighed per treatment and replicate to know the final weight gain. The results based on this indicated that processing jackfruit by boiling reduced the content of tannin and oxalate but apparently did not improved the nutritive value as growth and feed conversion ratio were depressed as levels of treated seeds in the diet of broiler was increased. This report shows that jackfruit is a potential feed resource and could be included in the diet of broiler chicks, up to 10% level of inclusion, which the birds can tolerate without any adverse effect on its performance.
