Abstract

This opinion paperlooks at the level ofarticle acquisition ofelectronic resources, which is referred to as the Pay per view model (PPV) ofelectronic resources acquisitions. It highlights the different electronic resources acquisition models, the providers and the platforms ofthe PPI model. It further discusses the experiences ofsome academic libraries in other climes that have implemented PPP, the modes oftransactions ofthe PPVand the benefits and drawbacks inherent in the model. It concludes that due to the high cost ofsubscriptions to scholarly databases and other electronic resources, academic libraries in Nigeria are not able to subscribe tofee basedscholarly databases for many ofthe programmes in their institutions, and therefore unable to acquire many electronic resources to meet the needs of their clients. Electronic articles are now mostly required by researchers more than the journals containing these articles. Therefore, specific, relevant article acquisition, based on need, is the way to gofor academic libraries who wish to provide seamless access to electronic resources to their clients. And in conclusion, the discourse encourages academic libraries inNigeria to adopt the PPVasa supplement to their existing electronic resources acquisition models.
