ABSTRACT

Feeding trials was conducted using 120 day-old marshal broiler chicks to assess the quantitative replacement of soybean meal with raw Anihonotha inacrophvlla seed meal in broiler diets. Thirty and Ten birds respectively constitute a treatment and a replicate. Four experimental diets wci-e formulated. Diet one was soybean based (control), while the test feedstuff quantitatively replaced 5, 10 and 15% soybean in diets 2, 3 and 4 respectively. The birds were assigned to these diets feed and water were given ad I/h/turn throughout the experiment. This experiment lasted for 56 days. The proximate composition particularly the crude protein (27.74%) and gross energy values (4.ô9Kcal/g) showed that raw Anthonaiha inacrophvlla seed meal is a potential feed ingredient. It contains anti-nutritional factors such as phytate (0.43%), tannin (0.06%). hydrogen cyanide (1 ICN) (1 3.71 mg/kg) and nitrate (0.14°/o). For growth performance, there were significant differences (P<0.05) lhr final weight, weight gain/bird, weight gain/bird/day and feed conversion ratio. The final weight, weight gain/bird, weight gain/bird/day supported diet 2 which was statistically higher than control diet (diet 1), diet 3 and diet 4. The feed conversion ratio also favoured diet 2 with 2.93 among others. For cut-parts, there were significant differences (P><0.05) for all parameters measured. with diet 2 comparing favourably with the control diet (dict 1). All the organ weights parameters showed no significant difference (P>0.05). The hacmatologicalparanieters measured were within the normal range established for broiler chickens except for monocytes for all the diets, lymphocytes and nuetrophils for diets 3 and 4 respectively. In all, diet 2 compared favourably with control diet (diet I ). Values for albumin, globulin and alkaline phosphatase were significantly (p
