ABSTRACT

10 specimen of stingray all member of the family Dasyatidea, from River Niger. Two species of this family occur mainly or exclusively in fresh water: Dayatis garouaensis (Stauch and Blac, 1962) and Dayastis ukpamn (Smith, 1893) Dasyatis garouoaensis, a small, bodied species previously known only from Lagos and Cross River. It is closely related to Dasyatis ukpam. A large thick bodied species was sported at Old Calabar River. Morphormetric and meristic measurement was done according to Compagno and Lovejoy, 1984.
