Modification Charcoal Dryer With Centrifugal Blower

ABSTRACT

A charcoal dryer with centrifugal blower which is been powered manually suitable for drying agricultural products was developed to improve on the traditional methods of drying agricultural produce in Nigeria. The traditional method (sun drying) is used extensively for drying agricultural products and this is time consuming and dependent on climate conditions. More so, inefficient drying results in poor quality of products since it is exposed to contaminate. The dryer developed eliminates all these afore-mentioned undesirable processing conditions. The charcoal dryer is designed to operate at a temperature of 30°C — 65°C. A preliminary test carried out on the dryer showed that it was able to reduce the moisture content of commodities to a safe level for storage indicating that the dryer performed satisfactorily.
