ABSTRACT
This project work examines the modeling of mechanical properties of aluminum alloy mold cast. Characterization of aluminum cable coil and mechanical properties (response parameters) of Ultimate tensile strength UTS, Impact Energy; Young’s modulus, tensile toughness, % of Elongation, flexural strength, and Hardness were conducted. The aluminum coil chemical composition was made up of 97.82% aluminum, 1.17% of silicon, 0.54% of copper 0.35% magnesium, and traces of iron and chromium. However, the mechanical properties that were modeled were the Ultimate Tensile Strength, UTS and Impact Energy to relate the process parameters to the five process parameters, 1st plunger velocity, A; 2nd plunger velocity, B; intensification pressure, C; pouring temperature. D and shot chamber temperature. Taguchi method as an optimization tool was adopted using three levels, nine experimental runs (nine different combinations) and five process parameters, L9 (35) orthogonal array. Sample specimen five (5) has the highest UTS of 83.24Nmm'2 with highest impact energy of 464J. From the Pareto chat of UTS model developed, it was observed intensification pressure has the greatest significance while the 2nd plunger velocity shows the least significance in the process.
