Marketing Efficiency Of Poultry Egg In Umuahia South Local Goernment Area, Abia State

ABSTRACT

The marketing of poultry egg is gradually becoming a big enterprise in Nigeria as it is currently providing employment to a number of households for sustenance of their livelihood and helping in meeting the protein needs of the people. The study was carried out in Umuahia south LGA, Ahia State. Two major markets in Umuahia south (Ahia Ukwu Olokoro and Apumiri Ubakala markets) were selected purposively for the study based on the fact that the business is mainly undertaken in these area. 120 egg marketers were purposively selected from the two market. Data collection was by questionnaires distributed to the marketers. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistic such as frequency, percentage mean, regression analysis and Z-test was used to test the hypothesis. The result of the analysis showed that the business was profitable. The significant variables that influenced the marketing efficiency in the study area were level of education, cost of purchases, and other marketing costs. Based on these findings, it was recommended that the business be encouraged through provision of marketing facilities and enhancing the marketer's capacity of using cooperatives. The significant variables that influenced the marketing efficiency should be considered in policy issues.
