Abstract The study investigated the management of library codeclions in Nigerian universities using Abia State University (ABSU) library Uluru as a case study. Strategies adopted by ABSU library, qualification ofpersonnel managing ABSU collections, provision of working tools for the management of its collections, proper shelving and shelf-reading and proper preservation and conservation of collections are the objectives of the studv that were investigated. Six research questions were raised from a corresponding number of specific objectivcs Survey , research design was adopted. Focus group is ABSU library staff. Questionnaire constituted the instrument for data collection, while descriptive method (frequency and percentage} and inferential statistics (mean and standard deviation) were used to analyse the collected data. The findings of the study showed that ABSU Library have strategies for managing their collections. Anotherfinding revealed that most ofthe respondents agree that the professional staffshould have a minimum offirst degree in Library and Information Science (LIS) or first degree in anotherfield, and masters in LIS. The study concluded that there are strategies for preservation and conservation of collections in ABSU ■ Library. Based on the findings, the study then recommended that for effective shelving, cataloguing, virtual reference services, serial management and resource sharing, Electronic Resource Managements (ERMS) and other Hhrarv management software should be bought and installed by the library administrationfor efficient and effective services.
