ABSTRACT viii This study sought to examine the information needs and utilization ofinformation resources by library and information science students ofMichael Okpara University ofAgriculture, Umudike. the study used descriptive survey research design and thepopulation ofthe study consisted ofboth postgraduate and undergraduate students in the department oflibrary and information science. Data for the study was collected using simple descriptive and inferential statistical tools which includes; frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation. The followingfindings were made; that the information needs ofLibrary and Information Science students are to registerfor their courses, writing project, doing assignments and term paper, preparingfor examinations and to develop my academic career, the types of information resources students of Library and Information Science students consult as to meet their need are academicjournals, magazines, Elibrary, online and offline database, online articles, newspapers and multimedia resources like videos, thatstudents make use information resources daily, weekly andmonthly and that the major problems facing LIS students of MOUAU in utilizing information resources to meet their information need includes; Inadequate power supply, inadequate infrastructural facilities, inadequate reading space, poor access to electronic resources, out-dated information materials and Nonchalant attitude oflibrary staff. Based on the findings the recommendations were made that adequate infrastructuralfacilitiesshould be made available in the academic library, because it will go a long way in improving the utilization ofinformation resources by student’s and the library information resources should be frequently replaced with updated information resources with modern and relevant library resources.
