Influence Of School Climate On The Academic Achievement Of Secondary School Student In Biology In Umuahia North L.G.A In Abia State, Nigeria

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of school climate on the academic achievement of secondary school students in Biology in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State. Three research questions and two hypotheses guided the study and the null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. A 16-. item questionnaire was designed using the likert scale model and validated by two experts in the unit of measurement and evaluation, College of agriculture and science education. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cranach's coefficient alpha method and yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.72. Two hundred and nine five students drawn from a population of one thousand two hundred and seventy three students were used for the study. The results of the study revealed that school climate influenced secondary school student's academic achievements in Biology. The study also showed that poorly equipped science laboratory, school location and conducive learning environment had influence on academic achievement in biology. Based on these findings, it was recommended that adequate provisions of science laboratory should be made for effective learning of biology in secondary schools.
