Abstract
This study investigated the Influence of Human Resource Development (HRD) strategies on teachers’ use of Instructional Media in Teaching Computer Studies in Secondary Schools in Abia State. The study employed descriptive survey research design. The study used five purposes and formulated five research questions and corresponding five null hypotheses that guided the study. Related literature of major variables was reviewed. The population of study was 3728 Human Resources, comprising of 1068 male and 2660 teachers. The sample for the study consisted 373 teachers (107 male and 266 female) representing 10% of the population, drawn through multi-stage sampling techniques. A researcher’s self-developed instrument known as Human Resource Development Strategies and the use of Instructional Media Questionnaire (HRDSIMQ) was used for the study. Three experts in the area of educational curriculum and instruction and Measurement and Evaluation validated the instrument. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Coefficient alpha reliability test which yielded reliability indices of 0.67. data from the questionnaire and the responses from the HRDs were analyzed. The research questions were answered using the simple descriptive statistics such as the mean and standard deviation. The hypotheses were tested at 0.05 levels of significance with appropriate degree of freedom using t-test analysis. The study revealed that pre-service training, In-service training, capacity building and reinforcements of human resources to a high extent influence teachers’ use of instructional media in teaching computer studies in Abia State. The study further revealed that HRD strategies to a high extent motivate teachers to use instructional media in teaching computer studies in Abia State. Hence the study among other things recommended that pre-service and in-service training of HRDs on instructional media should be provided in and around the school to encourage the use of instructional media for teaching and learning of computer studies.
