Implications Of Conflict Resolution On Organizational Efficiency (A Study Of Afikpo North And Afikpo South Local Government Area Of Ebonyi State:- Oko, Blessing U.

ABSTRACT

The study investigates the implication of conflict resolution on organizational efficiency (A study ofAfikpo North andAfikpo South local government area ofEbonyi State). The specific objectives are to: determine the causes of conflict in the study areas; determine the effect of conflict management process on organizational efficiency; ascertain the relationship between conflict resolutions on organizational efficiency and ascertain the factors affecting conflict resolution in the study areas. The total population ofthe study were 1550 staffofthe studied organization. Taro yamme formular were adopted to realize 318 sample size. The study adopted survey design and random sampling technique were also adopted. Hence, 302 questionnaires were recoupedfrom the respondents. Primary data sourcedfrom distribution ofquestionnaires to staffofAfikpo North and Afikpo South local government area ofEbonyi State, Nigeria were used for the study. A test-re-test was conducted to ensure validity and reliability ofthe data. The data were presented using 5 point Likert scale. The hypothesis were tested using Chi-square statistical model, correlation coefficient and simple regression model (SPSS).. The result reveal majority) of the respondents 50.66% asserted that poor communication is the main cause ofconflict in the organization. 51.32°/o ofthe respondents respond that conflict management process has a very high effect on organizational efficiency; more so majority) of the respondents 86.42% strongly agree that positive relationship exist between conflict resolutions and organizational effectiveness; in addition 53.97%> of the respondents respond that labour union are the mainfactor affecting conflict resolution in the local government council. From the empirical result, since Chi-square (X2) calculated = 22.7968 and Chi-square (X2) tabulated = 11.143, in effect, poor communication and nature of assignment are the major causes ofconflict in Afikpo North and South local government area of Ebonyi State. In addition, conflict management process has significant effect on organizational efficiency. More so, there is positive relationship between conflict resolutions on organizational effectiveness. The regression result shows that management policy and labour union have significant effect on conflict resolution in Afikpo North and Afikpo South local government area ofEbonyi State. It was recommended that conflictpreclusion structures should be put in place to address issues that can produce conflicts before they break open. In a similar vein, conflict situations should be promptly confronted and addressed whenever they occur rather than being avoided.
