Abstract This paper delved into the imperative task ofbuilding a sustainable value-based education system in Nigeria to meet the demands ofthe 21st century with reference to security -food, social - and to make a meaningful contribution to global resources and sustainable socio-economic development. Value-based education is an approach to teaching that instillsfundamental values in the learners, beyond just knowledge and skills. It emphasizes the development of values such as respect, responsibility, dignity of labor, integrity, empathy and compassion. Drawing from insights offered by Nigerian sources, the paper explores strategies, challenges, and recommendations for achieving this all important goal. The strategies outlined encompass essential areas of educational reform, including increased financial investment, curriculum adaptation, teacher training capacity building, policies for equity and access, technology integration, community and parental involvement, and a reevaluation ofstandardized testing.
