ABSTRACT

Energy is the fundamental resource that gives t' transform, transport and manufacture any material or commodity. It is vital to the development of any economy. In Nigeria, electricity is one of the oldest energy forms available for daily activities. It is also, in for grossly inadequate to meet the demands of an ever increasing population. This is largely due to inadequate utilization of funds and poor management. Efficient energy management necessitates the development and utilization of an energy plan to ensure a balance between demand and supply with any economy. This work analyzed the impact of power outages in Nigeria based on electricity generation and consumption data. No average Nigerian would not admit that the nation's power sector is nothing to right home about and has discouraged a lot of activities in the country. Critical look into the power sector shows that the situation gets worse as years go bye. In this work, the causes of power outages in the country, the issue in privatization, deregulation of the power sector, impact of power outages, graphical analysis of power outages and recommendation of the problems are well treated. The causes of power outages includes, low power generation, lack of maintenance culture, water level fluctuation, corruption, inadequate gas supply, equipment problems and poor planning. The impact of power outages includes unfavorable business condition, increase rate or pollution, increase in the cost of petroleum products and also the effects on education.
