ABSTRACT

The study investigated the impact of merger and acquisition on liquidity and profitability of banks in Nigeria (A case study of UBA Group). In the research process secondary data measure adopted from the annual financial report of the two banks. The study hypothesis were tested using simple regression model, correlation and T-test. After the empirical cum statistical study, the researcher concluded that the merger embarked upon by UBA Pic did not, pay off profitability in the short run but there was impact on the long run. And that the consolidation positively affected UBA Pic in terms of profitability after consolidation. Therefore, the researcher recommend thatlt is important to ensure the success of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in banking operations and there should be efficient monitoring by the financial authorities and regulator to prevent post-merger/acquisition unethical practice by the operators.
