Impact Of Inventory Management And Control On Corporate Performance In Nigeria (A Study Of Seven-Up Company & Guinness Nigeria, Plc, Abia State)

ABSTRACT

 Inventory constitutes the most significant part of current assets of majority of corporate firms like the Nigerian manufacturing sector. Owing to the relative largeness of inventories maintained by these firm, a considerable sum of money is been committed to them. It thus, become imperative to manage inventories effectively so as to avoid the cost of changing production rate, overtime, unnecessary cost of sales and back order penalties during periods of peak demand. The main issue in this study is to evaluate the iripact of inventory management and control on corporate performance. Based on the broad nature of the study, the researcher made use of selected manufacturing firms (Seven Up bottling company and Guinness Nigeria Plc) in Abia State, Nigeria. Data obtained for the study was secondary. Both econometric and descriptive statistical tools were beneficial in testing for th reliability and validity of the instrument for data c011ection. Based on findings on the data analyzed, this study concluded that inventory management and control contributes significantly to corporate performance in Nigeria. Thus, the study further suggest that in order to improve on the economic climate for proper inventory management and control that would stimulate economic growth and development in Nigeria, there is need for relevant stake holders and government to adopt measures that would improve and benefit the system.
